Skiing in South America
The best conditions for skiing South America are from July to August in the southern Andes Mountains of Chile and Argentina. You can also go snowboarding in Chile. One of the most ideal places to ski in Argentina is in the Lake Region where there are several resorts around Bariloche. Another highly recommended area is the Mendoza province at the resort of Las Leñas. The runs are excellent and the scenery is spectacular at both parks. If you decide to go skiing in Chile a good idea is to spend a week in Portillo and then visit Valle Nevado. The trails are interconnected allowing you to have easy access to great conditions and fun runs. Chile is also home to at El Colorado which is Chile's largest and best ski resort.
There are many perfect spots to go snow snowboarding in Chile. The best winter sports resorts are in Patagonia which is within the Andes Mountain range. They offer challenging and diverse terrain for snowboarders of all levels amid breathtaking scenery. The season is from early June to September, and although the region is sunny, the natural heavy snowfall is usually enough to maintain the ski area. The Villarrica Volcano slopes in the Villarrica National Park are about 12 miles from Pucon. You can choose from 20 slopes. Advanced snowboarders can enjoy the challenge of the area's natural ravines. Some of the amenities at the resort include a hotel room, bars, restaurants, a snowboard school, a ski shop and an equipment rental shop.
An excellent resort that is about 37 miles from Santiago is Valle Nevado Ski Resort. It is one of the biggest winter sports centers in the Southern Hemisphere. It has 23,000 acres of snowy terrain and there are wall rides, boxes, rails, jumps and a quarter-pipe as well. Snowboarders who prefer a forest setting can go to Termas de Chillan. This ski and spa resort has natural thermal springs and the ski area boasts 22 miles of trails at every level.
