Red Mountain Ski Resort Review

Red Mountain Ski Resort in Rossland, in the West Kootenay region of the Canadian province of British Columbia. It is in the Monashee Mountains just ten minutes north of the Canada U.S. border. The resort consists of two peaks, Red Mountain and Granite Mountain, and the best part is you can ski either one in 360 degrees.

There are 88 trials at Red Mountain, they are 15% beginner, 40% intermediate and 45% expert. They are serviced by 6 lifts, 1 quad chair, 2 triple chairs, 1 double chair, 1 T-bar and 1 Magic Carpet. The longest run is a whopping 4.5 miles and the vertical drop is 6,800 feet. The total size of this ski area is 4,200 acres with 1,685 acres lift serviced.

Ski Canada rates Red Mountain among the best for it's powder, steeps and trees. They also have plenty of glades and open groomers. The terrain park is called Red Park and the features include kinks, an S-rail, street rails, rainbows, flat downs, boxes, jumps, hips and Canada's largest wall rides.

Cross Country Skiing starts at the Blackjack Cross Country Club located across the highway from Red Mountain. Taking off from here you can ski over 30km of trails from beginner to expert. The backcountry touring around this area is fantastic and five different peaks are easily accessible. You can go on your own or with a guide.

Snowmobiling in the West Kootenay area is some of the best around. The Mountain Project HQ can tell you all about the different snowmobiling options they have available. The different tours are the Paulson Pass Tour, the Summit Tour and the Powderhound Tour.

Eating and drinking in Rossland is made pleasurable by a large selection of cafes, restaurants and pubs. The cafes are Clancey's, Goldrush Books and Expresso, Alpine Grind Coffee House and Microbakery, Sunshine Cafe and Rush Coffee Lounge. For night life try the Old Fire Hall, the Rock Cut Pub, the Flying Steamshovel or the Drift Izakaya. There are also 11 restaurants with Japanese, Mediterranean and Chinese cuisine as well as steaks and pizzas.
