Big Boulder Ski Resort Review

Big Boulder Ski Resort is located on Big Boulder Lake in Lake Harmony, Pennsylvania. It is joined together with Jack Frost Mountain and the two mountains can be skied for the price of one.

Snowboarding is allowed on all slopes and they have two terrain parks. Snow tubing at Big Boulder is done on any of the twenty different chutes serviced with five lifts. Another mountain attraction is the night skiing.

The runs at Big Boulder are accessed by 9 lifts, 5 double chairs, 2 triple chairs and 2 surface lifts. The skiable terrain is 55 acres with snowmaking covering all of it. The longest run is .2 miles. The runs are 40% beginner, 35% intermediate and 25% advanced. The vertical drop is 475 ft.

Some of the lesson packages offered at JFBB are adult lessons for ages 9 and older, private lessons, Snowmonsters for groups of kids 3-10 and adaptive lessons offered on weekends. They also have workshops and junior race programs.

A few years back Big Boulder Ski Resort made a commitment to snowboarders and decided to fill the void of quality terrain parks in the mid-Atlantic. Out of this commitment came Big Boulder Park. It has since won acclaim by TransWorld Snowboarding and is said to be one of the best in the east. They have since opened a second park, One, on Tannenbaum, is more for the beginners and families to enjoy. This park is in the Jack Frost area of the combined resorts.

Many people come to the Jack Frost Big Brother Pocono Resort just for the snow tubing, it's family fun that can't be beat. Big Boulder has 20 tubing chutes and two tows. Jack Frost has 6 chutes and two tows. A three hour session costs only twenty five dollars with an all day pass only forty five.

There is no lodging at Big Boulder but the Pocono area is full of options. In Lake Harmony there is the Harmony Lake Shore Inn and The Resort at Split Rock. In Blakeslee you will find the Blakeslee Inn and a Best Western. Wilkes-Barre offers the Fairfield Inn and Suites Wilkes-Barre, the Host Inn Suites Hotel and the Quality Inn and Suites Conference Center. In Nearby Hazleton you can stay at the Best Western, Genetti Inn and Suite or the Fairfield Inn and Suites by Marriott.

Other ski resorts in the area of Jack Frost Big Brother are Eagle Rock at 26 miles away, Alpine Mountain at 20 miles, Blue Mountain at 17 miles, Sno Mountain at 21 miles and Blue Mountain at 17 miles.
