North Star Ski Resort Review

Northstar Ski Resort, also called Northstar at Tahoe, is located in the Lake Tahoe area of the California High Sierras. It's just six miles north of Lake Tahoe at Truckee and 200 miles from the San Francisco Bay Area. If you haven't been there in a while you should get back and see the Village at Northstar. Included in this are 35 restaurants, shops and galleries and a 9000 square foot skating rink.

More additions to Northstar include mountain expansion with new slopes and lifts. Roads are being widened and new ones being added. Parking lots are getting bigger and transportation from parking to slopes has improved.

The ski area at Northstar includes 92 runs covering 2480 acres. There are 19 different lifts, transporting 34,799 skiers per hour, and 7 terrain parks. There is something for everyone at Northstar with plenty of beginner and intermediate runs on the front of the mountain and eight, mile long, vertical black diamond runs on the backside. They also have plenty of trails for cross country skiers and snowshoers, about twenty five miles of them. These trails are equipped with warming huts and picnic sites featuring views of Lake Tahoe. The lift accessed tubing hill is another way to get down a hill, and have fun doing it.

The ski runs are 13% beginners, 60% intermediate and 27% advanced. The longest run, Logger's Loop, is 1.4 miles long. The vertical drop of this mountain is 2,280 feet with an annual snow fall of 350 inches. They are proud owners of the largest snowmaking system of any resort in North Lake Tahoe servicing about 50% of the slopes.

Northstar has four main ski areas, the Backside, Mount Pluto, the Northwest Territory and Lookout Mountain. The terrain parks are full of boxes, hips, rails and a 400-foot superpipe.
