Bear Creek Ski Resort Review

Bear Creek Ski Resort is in Berks County, Pennsylvania. It is near Macungie and officially goes by the name Bear Creek Mountain Resort and Conference Center. It is a year round resort with all the amenities you would expect.

These year round activities include boating, fishing, mountain biking, hiking, skiing, tennis and hiking. Lodging is provided by a 116 room hotel with a full service spa and salon and three dining facilities. You will also enjoy the mountainside pools and hot tubs. In case the skiing and hiking are not enough exercise, the fitness center is well quipped for any kind of workout you desire.

The Bear Creek Ski Area was once known as Doe Mountain. It is only about 45 minutes from Philadelphia making it an easy day trip. The slopes are open at night so you could even drive up after work and still get home before to late.

Most of the 21 trails at Bear Creek are fine for beginners and intermediates. The run Extreme is the only one that will challenge the more advanced skiers. This ski resort is geared towards the family with the majority of it's 510 foot vertical drop suitable for skiers of all levels.

Snowboarders should feel at home here with three terrain parks and a 300 foot halfpipe. The Grizzly Family Park is just right for practicing and warming up before heading up the hill.

Getting you from the bottom to the top are 6 lifts. They include 2 doubles, 1 triple, 1 quad and 2 surface lifts. The lifts service 86 skiable acres. The runs are 30% beginner, 40% intermediate and 30% advanced.

If you happen to be there on a Tuesday or Wednesday evening you will probably enjoy the Nastar Race for the gold. Whether you are watching or participating this should be fun for all. You might just catch the bug and want to join the Bear Creek Racing Team or the Bear Creek Grizzlies Development Team.

Family fun in the snow can be more than just skis and snowboards. Bear Creek Ski Resort has one of the biggest tube parks in the area. It's a thousand feet long and guaranteed to be fun for the whole family.

If you are new to skiing, or just wish to polish your skills, lessons are available. The different programs offered are private lessons, the Discovery Program, Kid's Discovery Program, Kodiak Kid's Program, Kodiak Cubs Program, Women's Program and Freestyle Coaching.

Having read dozens of reviews for this ski resort, one thing everyone agrees on, the Grille at Bear Creek is over the top. This is a restaurant and bar with three stone fireplaces and five flat screen TVs. The cuisine is continental with a Pennsylvania twist.

The Trail's End Cafe is a pool side eatery with a casual atmosphere. While you are eating you can also be enjoying the slopeside views. Another casual dining experience can be found at The Mountain Eatery. It's cafeteria style and they serve Starbucks coffee.

No matter where you dine at Bear Creek you can be assured the herbs are fresh. Over twenty different varieties of herbs are grown in the Chef's Herb Garden.

So if you haven't made it up to the slopes at Bear Creek Ski Resort, maybe its about time you did.
