Snowbird Ski Resort Review


Snowbird Ski Resort is in the Wasatch National Forest near Salt Lake City, Utah. It is in Little Cottonwood Canyon, a part of the Rocky Mountains. Snowbird has the largest vertical rise in Utah and one of the top ten is the U.S.. The canyon is shared with Alta Ski Area and joint passes are available for both ski areas.

There are 85 runs at Snowbird, 27% beginner, 38% difficult and 35% advanced. Chip's Run is the longest at 2.5 miles. The runs are serviced by 13 lifts, 1 tram, 4 hi speed quad chairs, 6 double chairs and 2 surface lifts. There are 2,500 skiable acres with a vertical drop of 3,240 feet. The area is capable of seeing 500 inches of snow a year.


The Snowbird Terrain Park is accessed by the Gadzoom or Mid Gad lifts and is at the lower part of the Big Emma run.


If you come to Snowbird Ski Resort not knowing how to ski, there are several ways they can help. For adults they have a beginner special package. They also have an Adult Mountain Workshop, the Mountain Experience, Women's Monday Getaway, Ski and Snowboard Camps and Private Coaching and Guiding. For the kids they have a program just for three year olds, and another for the four to six year olds. The seven to fifteen year olds have a group and they also offer private coaching and guiding for kids.

There are four slopeside lodges at Snowbird, the Lodge at Snowbird, the Cliff Lodge, Iron Blosam and The Inn offering a total of 882 rooms. The Cliff Lodge and Spa has three lounges, four restaurants, a spa and a variety of shops. The Lodge at Snowbird has condominium accommodations, many of them with fireplaces, full kitchens and balconies. The Inn at Snowbird has many types of rooms as well as a pool, hot tub, steam room and exercise facility. At The Iron Blosam are shared-ownership condominium lodges. Located here is the Wildflower Ristorante and Lounge.


Good food is never a problem at Snowbird Ski Resort with any of their fifteen different choices. For the ultimate dining experience there is The Aerie. More dinner ideas are The Steak Pit, El Chanate and The Wildflower. For breakfast there is The Forklift or the Sunday brunch at the Atrium. Lunches are easy at either the Mid-Gad Restaurant, the Creekside Cafe and Grill, The Forklift or The Rendezvous. Other fun places to eat and drink are The Wildflower Lounge, The Tram Club and The Lodge Bistro Lounge.

Other activities at Snowbird Ski Resort include back country tours, snowmobile tours, mountain tours, Aerial Tram rides, Heli-Skiing, fly fishing, snowshoeing and night skiing.. You can also relax at the spa or the rooftop pool. During the summer months visitors to Snowbird can enjoy many outdoor activities including wall climbing, horseback riding, bungy jumping, ATV tours, mountain biking, fly fishing, Polaris Ranger tours, hiking, a mechanical bull ride, the ZipRider, the Alpine Slide or the Peruvian Chair and Tunnel.


In the mountains near Snowbird are a few other ski resorts. They are Deer Valley, Park City Mountain Resort, Solitude, Alta and Brighton, all within 8 miles.
